Mother Vikalotkarsini arranged prison programs throughout Slovenia for Candramauli Swami and a team of devotees from Ljubljana, time came for the first program in Celje.
Month: April 2013
Prison Counseling
We carry out counseling services in batches on a weekly basis. The inmates whom we counsel are those sentenced on a short term, long term, life imprisonment & death sentences. Inmates are free to choose, which religious counseling they would want. We have counselors from various religions such as Christian, Roman Catholic, Buddhist, Muslim, Sikh, and Hindu. We come under Hindu counseling. Within Hindusism there are few different groups doing counseling at the prison, preaching the various types of philosophy like Mayavada, Sai Baba, etc. Currently, we have a team of 8 counselors who are Krishna Conscious devotees doing this seva. The prisons provides us with fully air conditioned counseling rooms, overhead projectors, DVD players, PC facilities and TV monitors for us to use. We use this equipment in our counseling session.
April 24th Pula Prison
When we came on the seventh consecutive program at Pula prison, five inmates were there (mostly the ones who were regularly attending before), surprised to see only us. “Where is the special guest?” they asked. Now we were the ones to be surprised. There was no special guest scheduled, only the usual crew! Finally we understood they had been waiting for Srila Prabhupada. To announce the program, we made a poster with a photo of Srila Prabhupada in the background so they thought that he would come personally to give a lecture. We had to disappoint them and excuse our Acharya for not attending this program with more than a valid excuse – he has left this world in 1977.
April 23rd 2013 Karlovac Jail Program
Judging from the start of our trip from Rijeka, I could say it was going to be a very successful program. And it was, indeed. Even more than that.
